Our pupils in foundation stage have been drawing maps of Tour De Yorkshire route and decorating the playground with pictures of bikes.

Parents, we will be holding an egg rolling competition on Friday, 23 March. The children can bring their decorated eggs to school on Thursday, with a view to them being judged and then rolled on Friday. The designs should be based on the sports relief theme.

Last week we had an incident where a child was approached on the way to school. School gave safety advice to all our Year 6 pupils and parents contacted the police. We now have a police response which we can circulate to all parents to raise everyone’s awareness to keep all of our children safe. Please read below.
Please be aware that we have had two incidents in the Worsbrough area where pupils have seen a black 3 door vehicle with a male driver driving slowly around Schools at start times. On one occasion the male asked a pupil if they wanted a lift to School. This was declined and the male drove away.
The local neighbourhood police team will be giving extra patrols in the area at School starting and finishing times to try and identify the vehicle and driver. I would asked that staff and parents are made aware of the vehicle. If anyone see’s anything they think is suspicious please contact the police on 101 or 999 in an emergency.
Please also be advised that school staff will be present at the end and beginning of each day as always to ensure our children are safe as well as ensuring a quick response where needed.

Our wonderful Brownies and their friends have been super busy this morning, preparing, baking and decorating buns to sell for their Brownie award - half their profits will go to the Brownies and half to our school charity - Tiny Hearts, Well done

Inspiration Day - Wednesday, 24 January 2018
Our year 5 and 6 pupils really enjoyed our inspiration day. Many thanks to all the special visitors who spoke to the children. Our Highway Patrol officer thanked the children for their warm welcome and state that 'The kids were awesome, really switched on'.

Key Stage 2 Cross Country
Our pupils participated in the Inter-Sports Cross Country event at Hoyland Common Primary School. They had a great time and were successful in winning the competition trophy. Well Done everyone, its all about participation and enjoyment.
We are really proud of Dylan and Anya, and their family who recently participated in a sponsored walk in aid of the Alzeheimer' Society for their grandma.
Our KS2 pupils were recognised for their excellent work in our assemby week commencing 11 September 2017.

There was a marriage celebration @wardgreenprimary in KS1 today all pupils looked smart and dressed for the occasion.
Our Summer Fair was a great success many thanks to everyone who support this event especially the Parent Teacher Association for all their hard work and committment in making this event so enjoyable.

Danny Butler performed his Extreme Mountain Bike show for our pupils which was supported by Bike It Barnsley.
The pupils and staff in year 2 enjoyed a surprise visit from Dorothy this week as part of their Wizard of Oz topic.
'What Makes Britain Great?' Theme Week
As part of our theme week in conjunction with the Armed Forces Day a member of the armed forces, RECCE Tank Driver attended school to talk to the children about his job role and experiences on deployment in Afghanistan, Canada, Germany and Ireland.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and have spent the week learning about what makes Britain great and what is special about our british values.
Key Stage 1 Sports Day was a great success the pupils enjoyed participating in the various activities.
Foundation Stage Afternoon Tea
The pupils in our Foundation Stage thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon tea which they made and consumned.
STAFF WELLBEING WEEK
As part of our Staff Wellbeing Week all the staff were provided with a healthy choice breakfast sponsored by the National Union of Teachers.

Today we held a special celebration assembly which was attended by our VIP guest Mrs McDonald. Mrs McDonald was awarded for her extensive voluntary work in school. The pupils presented her with a certificate of appreciation and flowers followed by tea and cakes.
Our YMCA dance troup also performed their special dance.

Our YMCA dance group performed at the Barnsley Council Central Awards Ceremony last night. The event was a great success with the pupils providing a brilliant performance.

Year 5 & Year 3 Den Building Activities
The pupils in year 3 enjoyed celebrating pancake day by making pancakes which they enjoyed eating with various fillings.
PHSE –Whole School Diversity Project
Ward green children are all different unique and special.
We have used the stimulus of the story of Elmer the elephant who also is diverse, different and unique. All the pupils have shown how they are unique by designing an elephant different to everyone else’s. Every class has designed a class elephant and worked collaboratively to produce a class Elmer who is also different to everyone else using a variety of different art materials.

Year 3 Project Afternoon
The pupils have worked really hard on their geography and science project 'Scenes from Under the Sea'. There were some great ideas and models, parents/carers were invited to attend their show case event and assembly.
Year 3 Creation of Life
The pupils in year 3 researched the creation of life from Hinduism, the egyptian and christian creation theories. The childre created story board of the Hindu theory and baked buns reflecting how the cobra came from the beautiful lotus flower.
As part of the numeracy lesson Mrs Reekie requested the help of the pupils in year 5 and 6 to assess the number of lunchtime tables the school should purchase. Below is the brief the pupils were working with.
Isobel in Year 2 has wowed her teachers with her methodical working out in maths. We are currently looking at multiplication and division problems.
Well Done to Mrs Salters' Class who achieved the highest percentage attendance last week.
Massive well done to two of our children who have been chosen to play football for the Barnsley Boys. Mr Gates presented them with a the prestigious tie to wear on match days.

Christmas Party Day was very enjoyable. All the children were really excited.
Christmas Jumper Day
Lots of children and staff wore their christmas jumpers today, dont forget to wear them on Friday in support of Save the Children.
The christmas lunch today was lovely lots of hungry mouths fed and tummies filled to the tunes of christmas
Our pupils christmas performances were very entertaining, the pupils and staff worked really hard to ensure that these were a great success.
Our Christmas Fayre was a brilliant event the children and staff made some lovely gifts. Many thanks to our Parent Teacher Association who supported the event and worked really hard to make the event a success. Below are pictures of the gifts made by our talented pupils and staff.

Tomorrow is our Christmas fair and the fun starts at 2.30pm.
We would ask the parents to collect their children from the outside classroomdoor as they would normally do at the end of the school day. and then
Each class will have their own stall outside their classroom on the corridor, this ranges from toy tombola, cakes, crafts and lots more. The children have enjoyed making all the fabulous prizes.
There will be refreshments available in the main dining hall.

Reuben J wrote a wonderful piece of writing about his hero, Barnsley football player Sam Winnall, and it was so good that his class teacher, Mrs Williamson, decided to send it to Barnsley Football Club for Sam to read. Sam was so impressed that he decided to visit Ward Green Primary with his and fellow Barnsley football player, Marley Watkins. They surprised Reuben in a special assembly and gave him a signed football, and even had a Q&A time with the whole school.
